Seminar on community co-development of hydrokinetic energy in Galena, òòò½´«Ã½

presentors

Join us for a seminar to learn about a hydrokinetic energy project in Galena to harness power from the Yukon River.

Ben Loeffler, ACEP research professional and Pacific Marine Energy Center co-director, and Tim Kalke, manager, will discuss the scope and status of the joint project and describe the co-development process.

Galena is a rural community of nearly 500 residents, the majority òòò½´«Ã½ Native, residing on the north bank of the Yukon River in interior òòò½´«Ã½. The community is currently electrified by an expensive diesel plant, has built a biomass district heating system and is in the process of constructing large scale solar and battery energy storage systems.

The presentation is part of a three-seminar series on marine energy and rural electrification. The series, co-sponsored by ACEP and the Pacific Marine Energy Center, explores perspectives on rural electrification and community priorities, co-development and governance through the lens of marine energy, including riverine and coastal wave energy.
