Financial Aid

An òòò½´«Ã½ student in F-1 status is a non-resident alien on a non-immigrant visa which permits full time study in the U.S. Federal regulations and UAF admissions policy require that students with F-1 and F-2 visas have enough resources to meet their expenses throughout their stay at UAF.

Federal regulations limit the types of financial assistance available to òòò½´«Ã½ students. Since federal financial aid is for U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents, òòò½´«Ã½ students are not eligible for financial aid or student loan through the UAF Financial Aid. However, òòò½´«Ã½ students may be eligible for University of òòò½´«Ã½ Foundation and privately funded scholarships. See UAF's scholarships webpage for more information.

International students should search for their own country’s banks, embassy, or ministry of education as they may offer information about available financial aid and loan opportunities.

UAF R1 Effort

UAF is making ongoing efforts to attain R1 research status. These efforts are focused on graduating and recruiting more Ph.D.s. UAF has requested $20 million in state funding to recruit Ph.D. students and provide fellowships to those students, as well as funding for faculty and staff to mentor and support doctoral students. This includes occasional awards which are shared on the UAF R1 website that can include coverage of tuition, fees, research assistantships and health insurance. Additionally, Ph.D. positions are available to òòò½´«Ã½ students and can be found on the UAF R1 website.
