BLaST Celebrates Scientist of the Month for March

BLaST Scholar and UAF biological sciences undergraduate student Shadrach Stitz was selected as the March 2023 BLaST Scientist of the Month.

White paper submissions sought for NSF Research Traineeship Program

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is soliciting white papers for the National Science Foundation's Research Traineeship Program. The primary goals of the NSF program are to explore ways for graduate students in research-based master's and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers.

Climate survey on diversity and equity open through March 28

UAF has partnered with the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium to administer a diversity and equity campus climate survey to the entire UAF community. This survey asks students, faculty, staff and administrators about their perceptions and experiences related to diversity, inclusion, discrimination, and harassment at UAF. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous.

If you are reading this you are probably within academia in some way - student, staff, or faculty. If you are in academia, you are probably doing hard things every day. I am not going to tell you about how, if you face challenges and do hard things, your life will get easier and you can convert to eating bonbons every day. In fact, I want to encourage you to do more hard things without even having the goal of 'easy.' The goal of doing hard things, rising to the challenge, and resiliency through hard work is to be better at doing just that. That is what I want to talk about today.

April 15 deadline to apply to participate in 2023 commencement ceremony

Students who apply for graduation must also confirm attendance at the ceremony via the RSVP form. There, students will also record the pronunciation of their name. Seating is set by the number of students who have indicated they will be there, so students must confirm attendance by April 15.
